Anger is like sneezing to me. Quick, can't hold it back. I feel like I can listen to as much advice as I can it doesn't help (YET). Great advice btw! Funnily enough, the fifth advice is the easiest for me. I understand myself, but still doesn't help. I take stuff too personal and hold grudges I think. I feel like I WANT to take things personally, because I want to hear things about me. I wanna like myself, but I take anything I get. Even the bad stuff.... because it gives me a feeling of secure identity. I want to change, tho. I don't want to be "the monster" anymore. I need good input. Idk how to give it to myself tho.
You're right.... Anger is permissible for sure. The WAY you REACT towards someone else in Anger can be Hurtful. Like you said....don't take it personal...But what if someone is hurting you in Anger because they personally have a habitual problem. Lives are RUINED for generations with the consequences of Anger dealt poorly.
100% anger can have a generational impact. You are absolutely right! Learning to set boundaries is crucial. There's a vast difference between understanding and condoning or tolerating. For example, I frequently say that it's my job to explain behavior, it's not my job to excuse it. If you have relationships/connections in your life that are habitually angry, it's wise to set clear boundaries, but it's most important to make sure you are safe. When I was in jail for a year I tried to keep as productive as possible and even took notes and read Dr. Micheal Hershorns Anger management "class" book they offer in jail and the main take away is; (calm is controlled.) It is physiologically impossible to be angry when you are relaxed, calm and at a sense of stillness or peace. So the key is habit formation training of recognizing signs when you're building up to anger like sweaty palms, pacing around, heavy breathing, clenching fists, negative thoughts and or speech and more. The take away there is that no one acts out in anger by accident, like, "I couldn't help it." you can always help it, it's a choice and one that can cost you your life or others. So you want to train yourself to acknowledge signs that build up to anger like antecedents and again the main thing is repetition, physically write and take notes, meditate and practice these things if you genuinely care and desire self improvement. I do and I'll never end up hurting those i love by mean words, or put myself in dangerous situations because I was in control of myself and never gave away my power! You got this alittle effort goes farther than you know like the compounding effect.
